Education minister Jessica Alupo
“The Chief Administrative Officers through their DEOs and inspectors of schools are requested to ensure that all schools are opened as scheduled and head teachers report to their duty stations to receive parents and their children.”
Alupo directed districts to ensure that all government-aided schools open for the third term on September 16, 2013. She also urged boards of governors, school management committees, PTAs and parents to ensure that children report to school on Monday.
“All teachers are called upon not to sacrifice their professional ethics and abandon their learners at this critical moment,” the statement read.
Minister Alupo said negotiations between Government and UNATU would continue even after the schools have opened.
“We have prepared a Cabinet memo for discussion tomorrow. We expect Cabinet to come up with a decision on the teachers who won’t teach on Monday,” she said.
